Krung Thai

The PEx Gluttony Society (the official name of PEx food club) met for another food trip last night at Krung Thai in Marikina.

Krung Thai is located near the Marikina Public Market beside Johnny's Fried Chicken. The landmark is a statue of a man washing a kid's butt.

As one of the starters of this club, I was overwhelmed by the attendance! If I remember correctly, we were 19-strong foodies eating in this small hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The restaurant is very small, could accommodate up to 30-40 people at a time.

The restaurant has simple Thai decors with a homey feel.

I belong to the last batch who arrived at the resto, but the early birds passed some dishes to us so we could already eat while we were choosing which ones to order.

I only requested for Pad Thai and Thai Style Iced Coffee then let the other foodies' order since I've been eating Thai food this past week (last Friday was Oody's and Tuesday lunch was Thuk Thai).

Let me share with you the dishes I liked in Krung Thai:

Krung Thai's Pad Thai (Php 189) is one of Spot.ph's Top Ten Pad Thai in the Metro. Yep, the pad thai was great! It was not too sour nor too sweet for my taste.

The Chicken in Red Curry (Php 239) met my expectations. The spiciness is just right for me.

The Spring Rolls (Php 149) are not-so bite-sized, but it was something good to eat while enjoying a conversation. :)

Other must-try dishes at Krung Thai:

The Bagoong Rice (Php 278). Almost everyone in our group loved it!

Chicken Satay (Php 149)

Tom Yum (Php 359). Didn't try but it must be good since 2 servings were gone like the wind. :)

My observations:
- I wasn't able to determine what's Thai on the Thai Style Iced Coffee. It was just an ordinary iced coffee for me.
- I was a bit disappointed that they weren't able to serve us the Thai Iced Tea.
- They were also selling shoes and bags in the resto, which is awkward and ruins the theme of the restaurant.
- They don't serve Som Tam and Pad See Aw. :(

Overall, I would still recommend Krung Thai because of its affordability and authenticity. Pad Thai is a must-try!

Some dishes lack the Thai taste I was looking but the chicken curry, bagoong rice, spring rolls and pad thai makeup for it.

I could say that the trip and the money was worth it.

Here is my picture with some of the food club members:
