Modern Toilet at Ximending, Taipei

A restaurant you should visit whenever you're in Ximending is Modern Toilet, a Taiwanese restaurant known for its bathroom theme.

The entrance to the restaurant is adorned with toilets, where you can sit and take photos. The dining area is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

All seats are made of toilets and the glass tables have sinks with poop display on it.

Even the handwash area is a toilet seat! :P

I ordered an Au Gratin meal: Smoked Chicken with Cream Sauce Au Gratin (NT$260 or Php 377). Au Gratin meals can either have rice or penne pasta: I chose rice. My friend opted for the Pork Sausage Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce (NT$230 or Php 333). Our meals come with a bowl of soup, green tea, or black tea and a serving of ice cream.

The au gratin was served in a bathtub-shaped bowl and my hot tea was served in a toilet-shaped mug. Cool!

And my friend's spaghetti was served in a toilet seat plate. :P

My other friend had one of their popular ice shavings: Toilet No. 1 (NT$120 or Php 174).

It's a huge serving of ice shaving with chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, and lots of chocolate-flavored snacks like a wafer, cookies, etc.

Honestly, the food isn't something to rave about, but the theme is very interesting. I must admit that their servings are generous and the prices are very reasonable.

Still, I would recommend that you visit the Modern Toilet to experience this unique restaurant theme. Oh, there's a minimum order of NT$90 per person and no service charge. :)

Note: NT$1 = Php 1.45

  1. This is what we've missed, kainis! Wrong timing to do their renovation on the same month that we were there. Haha!

    1. It was reasonably-priced, but I felt like we were paying for the experience more than the food. :)
