Purple Oven: Sweet Success

Note: This location is already closed.

Since last year, buying birthday cakes for my family has been my personal tradition. It gives me the freedom (and excuse) to discover hidden cake shops.

Last June 2011, I bought Lia's Cakes in Season's Avocado Cake for my mom's birthday. She liked it (but my dad loved it, so I bought the same cake for his birthday, which he finished all by himself), but she told me: "I hope next year would be a chocolate cake." So come June 2012, I decided to buy her something from Purple Oven.

Purple Oven is the pastry and cakes supplier of some coffee shops and restaurants in the Metro. Though the location is hidden within Pasig City, people are willing to do a trek to buy their wonderful cakes, cookies, and other sweet goodies.

I bought Grandma's Chocolate Cake (Php 570) for my mom.

Grandma's Chocolate Cake

It is a traditional chocolate cake with caramel filling topped with pretty chocolate ribbons. True to its name, it is something your grandma will bake, it is not too sweet. I would also like to emphasize its quality. My mom got three cakes for her birthday that finishing three chocolate cakes was quite a challenge at home that Grandma's Chocolate Cake lasted a week. Surprisingly, it was still as soft as the day I brought it home.

I also bought the Chocolate Revel Bars (Php 240, 16 pcs).

Chocolate Revel Bar

Chocolate Revel Bars are layers of oatmeal cookie dough with brownie-like chocolate filling in the middle. Purple Oven's version has lots of chopped walnuts that I really love! The moisture was just right and the sweetness wasn't overpowering. It was simply addicting!

Other wonderful treats from Purple Oven:

Doesn't this look familiar? :)

I'm definitely going back to try more cakes and goodies! :)
