Comida China de Manila

Who would have thought that a simple question would lead us, the PEx Gluttony Society, to rediscovering a restaurant that has been serving Old Manila cuisine for over a hundred years: Comida China de Manila.

Formerly known as Panciteria San Jacinto, Comida China serves traditional Chinese dishes at really affordable prices. What I liked best is that their dishes are available in four serving sizes: poquito, small, medium, and large.

The restaurant has American-Spanish-influenced interiors and has function rooms for different occasions.

We had Comida China Soup (Php 133, poquito) for soup.

Comida China Soup has bits of century egg, corn, egg, pork, green peas, and carrots and has a very inviting aroma.

We also ordered Pinsec Frito with Pork Filling (Php 120, small) and Camaron Rebosado Con Jamon (Php 316, small).

Pinsec Frito with Pork Fillings

Pinsec Frito is deep-fried wonton triangles with pork fillings. The staff made us try it with two kinds of sauces and I liked both sauces. Camaron Rebosado is deep-fried battered shrimp with ham on top. This dish is delicious! We should have ordered large for this.

The place used to be called a 'panciteria' (noodles shop), so why shouldn't we order pancit? So we had Seafood Comida China Chow Mein (Php 316, small).

This saucy noodle dish has Chinese broccoli leaves, black mushrooms, shrimps, squid, and carrots. The toppings are really overwhelming! I love this dish! This is really a must-try. :)

We also had Spicy Salt & Pepper Ribs (Php 258, small) and beef specialties: Comida China Beef (Php 130, poquito) and Beef with Chinese Broccoli (Php 250, small).

Salt & Pepper Ribs has always been my request whenever we go Chinese. For some reason, I like munching on this dish. Comida China Beef has cracklings on top and is similar to Asado. I really loved the tenderness of the Beef with Chinese Broccoli. I liked the sauce too. :)

Instead of having Yang Chow, we ordered Fried Rice with Asado and Chinese Sausage (Php 224, small).

It was a little sweet, and almost a meal by itself. I wouldn't mind having this again.

It wasn't a surprise that Comida China de Manila has been running for more than a hundred years. With its delicious dishes, I can't wait to go back and bring my family here. I bet my whole family--from my grandparents to my siblings--will love this place. :)
