Yellow Halo Guilt-Free Kitchen

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

My co-Lunti officers would always have our annual year-end meeting to assess the activities we organized the past year. Since we are an environmental and health advocacy club, we go somewhere healthy. Last year, we went to ECHOcafe at ECHOstore, so now we decided to meet up to one of the newest health restos in Ortigas: Yellow Halo Guilt-Free Kitchen.

Who would think that it's in the middle of Ortigas Center?
Lovely shelves

The resto is located at the Wellness Alliance, which also houses 360 Fitness Club, Yoga Plus, and other health and wellness centers. The place can accommodate 30 people. It looks like a home kitchen warped in the middle of the business district. The main piece of the resto is the round shelves on the walls that serve as storage for the fruits.

Yellow Halo promotes well-balanced meals by serving less than 500-calorie meals. They serve healthy plates, all of which are 25% protein, 25% grains, 25% fruits, and 25% veggies. All items on the menu have calorie counts indicated on them.

Before we start our meal, we had the Fruities or fruit smoothies. I had the Cucumber Mint (Php 65, 100 calories).

Cucumber Mint

I have a thing for cucumber shakes recently. I liked their Cucumber Mint smoothie, but I wished it has more ice on it.

Our group had the following healthy plates: Mongolian Beef (Php 230, 450 calories), Spicy Tofu (Php 180, 400 calories), Porkchop with Mustard Cream Sauce (Php 180, 450 calories) while I had Chicken Stir Fry (Php 180, 420 calories).

Chicken Stir-Fry (Low Glycemic)

The Healthy Plates each has a classification, depending on your nutritional needs.

The Chicken Stir Fry exceeded my expectations. I was thinking that I'll be eating a really bland dish, but it wasn't. The sauce was flavorful and tender. It was served with brown rice, veggies, and fruits, which makes it a complete meal.

However, our meeting took a while that we also ordered snacks. We had their sandwiches: Beef Fajita (Php 80, 290 calories) and Tomato Basil Cottage Cheese (Php 90, 260 calories).

One item that I really liked was the Beef Fajita. It was an inexpensive yet really delicious snack. Same goes with the Tomato Basil Cottage Cheese, it doesn't even have meat yet I liked it.

We also tried the new items on their menu: Baked Kamote (Php 60) and Fruit Platter (Php 150).

They also serve salads and pasta.

It's really nice to try something healthy like the dishes served at Yellow Halo. The prices are reasonable, even less expensive than I expected. I just wished they'll serve more beverages, like fruit juices, coffee, or tea.

I'm intrigued by the pasta and the other dishes, which I'll try when I visit again.

  9. Nice to see that this in a positive note. I've read mixed reviews about this which made me reluctant to try it out.
