I love fried chicken, in whatever shape or form. I'm one of the those people who really don't care about which chicken part I get as long as I get my fried chicken treat.
I was invited last week to the preview of the soon-to-be newest Fried Chicken place in town - Birdhouse at the Food Hall in Uptown Mall BGC.
An original concept by the Relish Group, the wonderful people behind Wee Nam Kee, Kumori Japanese Bakery and Osaka Ohsho, Birdhouse intends to redefine fried chicken by serving different sauces, aside from our beloved gravy.
In Birdhouse, the ordering process is simple: get an order form an choose your meal from Barnyard A to E, your choice of sauce (Peach BBQ, Green Goddess, Truffle Ketchup, Garlic Ranch and Milk Gravy), your sides (Coleslaw, Garlic Fries, Elote Corn, Dirty Rice or Mac and Cheese), your drink, and dessert.
Barnyard A (Php 165) has Birdhouse Chicken Tenders, Dirty Rice, one sauce, and crispy chicken skin.
Barnyard B (Php 170) has 1-piece Fried Chicken, one side, one sauce, and crispy chicken skin.
Barnyard C (Php 220) has 1-piece Fried Chicken, two sides, one sauce and crispy chicken skin.
Barnyard D (Php 255) has 2 pieces Fried Chicken, one side, one sauce and crispy chicken skin.
Barnyard E (Php 290) has Salted Egg Lava Chicken and one side.
I had Barnyard C, with Dirty Rice and Garlic Fries for sides and Truffle Ketchup sauce while my friend Jerro of Gourmanila has Barnyard D, with Mac and Cheese for side and Peach BBQ sauce. We also had Peach Iced Tea (Php 60) for drinks.
If you love anything with truffle, you'll love the Truffle Ketchup, with a hint of tanginess from the tomatoes and the addictive taste of truffle but if you like something sweet, you'll love the Peach BBQ sauce, with a fruity taste that complements the fried chicken.
For the sides, we loved the Dirty Rice and the Mac & Cheese. The Garlic Fries was also likeable but it had too much garlic on my order.
For dessert, we shared an order of Waffle and Ice Cream with Crispy Chicken Skin (Php 150).
This dessert is an ode to sweet and salty with generous scoops of vanilla ice cream and bits of crispy chicken skin. Yes, even the dessert has fried chicken. :P
If you love fried chicken, then you should put Birdhouse on your places to try. I really loved the Fried Chicken and the unique sauces. I will go back to try the Salted Egg Lava Chicken Sandwich and other sides.
Birdhouse officially opens on September 1!
Thanks to Relish Group for having us.
