I was so fortunate to be one of the first to try the newest additions to Yabu's menu: #TheYabuDonSeries
The first part of the Yabu Donburi Sets includes two masterclass creations: the Salmon Don and the Katsu Curry Don.
But first, I had a glass of Honshea (Php 220), one of the Yabu craft cocktails created by Erwan Heussaff. Honshea is a mild mix of sake and lemon, just enough to relax while waiting for the food.
Honshea |
I had the Katsu Curry Don (Php 480 for Rosu/Hire, Php 470 for Chicken).
Katsu Curry Don |
Served in a hot stone pot, I was served Rosu Katsu on Japanese curry and melted Mozzarella. I love the blend of cheese and Japanese curry. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of curry, but this dish made me change my mind. It could be quite heavy, it could be shared by two. I would love to try hot curry next time.
Another showstopper is the Salmon Don (Php 490), inch-and-a-half thick salmon steak with crispy salmon skin and salmon roe, served on teriyaki rice with sauteed bell pepper and eggplant.
Salmon Don |
The teriyaki rice blends well with the taste of the salmon, and the crispy salmon skin adds texture to the rice. I'll have this again and nobody expects me to share. I love the Salmon Don! :)
#TheYabuDonSeries will be available at all Yabu branches starting today, March 25, until May 31, 2015. Get a chance to win a trip for two to Tokyo with every order of Yabu Donburi Creations.
Thanks to Candice Zialcita of Yabu for having us.
