Cocktail Drinks and More at Long Bar, Raffles Hotel Makati

Raffles and Fairmont Makati was launched December last year, and I was fortunate enough to visit the hotel with my fellow foodies.

We began the evening by having a few drinks at Long Bar, Raffles Makati.

Out of nine Raffles Hotels in the world, 2 locations only have a Long Bar: Singapore (the original) and the Philippines. Long Bar at Raffles Hotel Singapore is the home of the Singapore Sling.

inside Long Bar

Long Bar has a cozy atmosphere, the earthy decor of this bar was inspired by the Malayan plantations of the 1920s. The whole place is dimly-lit, which makes it more relaxing. We were seated at the bar, where we watched bartenders mix the drinks.

As I mentioned before, I don't really drink, but the original Singapore Sling and other cocktail drinks were too irresistible to skip.

Most of the guys were already enjoying this drink when I arrived, so I had the Classic Singapore Sling (Php 380) too.

Classic Singapore Sling

The Classic Singapore Sling is a mix of Tanqueray Gin, Cherry Heering, Cointreau, Fresh Lemon & Pineapple, Angostura Bitters Topped with a Whisper of Benedictine. Don't let the fruity taste fool you, the alcohol will catch on a little later.

Long Bar Raffles Makati also has a signature drink, the Makati Luxury Sling (Php 680).

Makati Luxury Sling

Makati Luxury Sling is a mix of Tanqueray Ten, Cherry Blossom, Grand Marnier Benedictine, Lime & Pineapple Juice topped with Angostura foam topped with 24K Gold. Yes, you read it right: 24K Gold.

The Makati Luxury Sling is smoother than the Classic Singapore Sling, but both drinks are must-tries if you'll visit Long Bar.

What makes Long Bar more fun? The peanuts!

It is a Long Bar tradition to throw peanut shells on the floor. It was a symbol of protest against strict rules about cleanliness in Singapore. We really did great with the littering part, we thought we're decorating the floor with the peanut shells.

We also tried other cocktails like the Guava Cosmopolitan (Php 380) and Pineda Mojito (Php 380).

Pineda Mojito

Guava Cosmopolitan is a mix of Belvedere Vodka, Fresh Lime, Local Pink Guava and Cranberry while Pineda Mojito is a mix of Havana Club 3 AƱos Rum, Fresh Lime, Thai Basil & Mint, Mandarin Orange topped with Soda Bubbles.

After having these drinks, I was actually feeling a little drunk that my face turned red. Thanks to Von and Rian of Long Bar for giving me lots of water and brewed coffee (much to the Food Dude's amusement).

Brewed Coffee to keep me sane

Aside from the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, Long Bar also serves  traditional pub favorites that are available as a meal or snacks.

I just had enough diuretics to tame the alcohol in my system that I was able to enjoy our dinner buffet at Spectrum.

More about Spectrum soon. :)

Note: All prices are subject to 10% service charge and applicable local tax.

Thanks to Loni Balagtas & Monique Toda of Raffles Makati and Spanky Enriquez for organizing this event.

and that Luxury Sling with 24K gold on top? Hmm. A lot of thoughts running thru my mind now. But I'll rather keep them to myself. hehehehe.

    1. If your question is about the 24k gold, no, sprinkles of gold won't kill you. Biting gold bars might do it. :P

Yeah, I think it's the Singapore Sling that got me. :)

  2. I like the idea of throwing shells on the ground. Saw the pic on another blog and thought, heck, this looks really messy. But honestly, it does seem fun. :P
