After a feast in Kimukatsu, my friends and I searched for a place for a nightcap. We ended up at Cupcakes by Sonja, also located at the Shangri-la Plaza East Wing.
I love the artsy touch on the interiors and on the chairs, even the plant pots are from used baking ingredients.
Impressively, the staff was very welcoming though the shop was about to close. We were given ample time to think of what we're going to have.
My lovely friends got me a box of cupcakes as birthday gift. I got two more cupcakes: one for free because we got a box of cupcake and another one free because it was my birthday. :)
I had Red Velvet Vixen (Php 85), Elvis (Php 115), Choco Cream Pie (Php 110), Cookie Monster (Php 105), Berry Delight (Php 115) and S'mores Tart (Php 95).
Berry Delight is strawberry cheesecake cupcake with strawberry slices and sauce. Choco Cream Pie has Belgian chocolate cream, Oreo crust, whipped cream and Oreo bits. Elvis has peanut butter cream, Reese's bits, caramelized bananas, Oreo crust, whipped cream and caramel.
Cookie Monster has a cookie dough center eiyh buttercream frosting, mini choco chip cookie, choco chips and chocolate chip cookie on top. S'mores Tart is amazingly unique with honey cinnamon crust, dark chocolate ganache, marshmallow fluff and marshmallow caramel.
I liked all the flavors but I highly recommend Berry Delight (as I love cheesecake) and S'mores Tart. For sugary treat, try the Elvis. :)
Cupcakes by Sonja also has other delighful pastries such as bars, cookies and cake cups. I was impressed with the coffee menu, but while my friends opted for cold drinks, particularly the Strawberry Basil Iced Tea (Php 110), I opted to try one of their milkshakes: the aptly-named Birthday Cake (Php 195).
Birthday Cake Milkshake |
Birthday Cake is thick vanilla cake milkshake topped with birthday cake frosting and rainbow sprinkles. And for the second time in a row, I didn't feel the need to get a traditional birthday cake because this milkshake filled my need for one. This is one of those milkshake flavors that blow your mind without even trying hard.
It is no wonder that Cupcakes by Sonja is one of the most popular cupcake shops in the metro. From the classics to the premiums, they didn't fail to amaze the dessert savant in me. I would recommend that you eat the cupcakes with a cup of coffee, but it wouldn't hurt to try their milkshakes.
Bacon & Waffle Milkshake, you'll be the next target.
Note: Cold drinks and milkshakes are available in selected branches only.
