Weekend Lunch at Olive Tree Kitchen and Bar

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

I had a catch-up lunch with a good friend and fellow foodie, Jeng, a few weeks ago at this newly-opened restaurant in Bonifacio High Street, Olive Tree Kitchen and Bar

OTKB is owned by Chefs Rob and Sunshine Pengson, who also owns The Goose Station and Hungry Hound.

It was a packed Saturday for the resto. While waiting for our table, we settled at the bar, which displays an impressive array of alcoholic drinks.

For drinks, I ordered Sugarfree Iced Tea (Php 120, refillable) while Jeng had an Amaretto Sour (Php 250). And yes, this was his lunch drink.

For antipasti, we tried the Bacon Fat Frites (Php 235), served with parmesan dip.

Bacon Fat Frites

It's one of those comforting dishes that I'd love to gobble up. I have this unconditional love with anything cheesy and bacony, and this dish just hits the spot.

We also had one of their artisan pizzas, Honey, Truffle Oil, and Egg (Php 420).

The pizza is also topped with parmesan mornay, herb bouquet, and black olives. The runny yolk at the center is lovely, and the pizza crust is chewy (although I would prefer the traditional Italian thin crust). However, it lacked the flavor from the truffle oil, that we were only able to catch a hint of it. The honey was almost nonexistent as well.

We ordered the Crispy Pork Belly (Php 550) for our mains.

Crispy Pork Belly

The Crispy Pork Belly has apple & raisin glaze, chicken liver parfait, and poached apples on top of mountain rice. The meat was impressively tender, and the glaze blends well with the pork and rice as you chew it. Jeng would have wanted the skin to be crispier, but I thought this one was cooked well. A must-try when you visit OTKB.

The last dish to arrive was the interestingly named Sopranos Sunday Gravy (Php 430).

Sopranos Sunday Gravy

It is Spaghetti and Meatballs with Oxtail and Tripe & Bone Marrow and Chicken Liver. I didn't know why it was named such, but it didn't reach my expectations. Or maybe I just expected too much.

Overall, OTKB is a recommended chill place with its homey ambiance. The service was satisfactory, and the food was impressive. I would love to go back to try the other antipasti and main dishes.

  1. Sounds interesting. I've tried Chef Rob and Chef Sunshine's food before, during an event that they catered. I remember that the food was pretty good, yummy enough to spike my curiosity about Olive Tree. Adding this place now to my must-try restaurant list. :)
