PBO's Anniversary Outreach at Kanlungan ni Maria

I spent Sunday last week with my fellow bloggers and guests at Kanlungan ni Maria in Antipolo City to celebrate the 1st anniversary of PBO.

PBO or Pinoy Bloggers Outreach is a group of bloggers working together to help out organizations in need.

It was my first time to attend a PBO event, and to describe the experience was beyond words.

Kanlungan ni Maria is the home of 22 elders: 17 lolas and 5 lolos. The volunteers were paired up and assigned to one lolo/lola. We were tasked to talk to them, listen to their stories, feed them, and share the gifts the PBO brought for them.

Jimmy and I were assigned to Lolo Fred, but sadly, Lolo Fred prefers to stay in bed and be left alone. However, he did acknowledge the gifts we brought him.

Some of them are already bedridden, some are dependent on their wheelchairs, some are still very healthy and quite entertaining (like Lola Pina, who has this sweet smile I wouldn't forget). Though we only stayed for a few hours, the memories will stay my heart for as long as I live.

Thanks to PBO, especially to Senyor, for organizing this event, to Jimmy, Zai, Joanne, and Shari for helping me out with the food for the grandparents and the staff, and to the angels who extended help to make this activity a success.

  2. You made me remember the very time I went to Home for the Aged in our city. I was 3rd high school. The stories of these lolas and lolos are always educational. Sometimes, I can't help but think how come they were left by their children or apos... anyway, that's just me.

    Great outreach program!
