The Chocolate Kiss Cafe

Note: This location is already closed.

I finally visited The Chocolate Kiss Cafe a few weeks ago. I've been hearing lots of good things about this place from UP friends that I really regret the time that I had to decline an invite to try this resto a few months ago. Glad my friends were more than willing to try this place with me. :)

We went to their 2nd location at Roces Avenue, which can be really crowded late in the evening. I had a few minutes of peace since I arrived a bit early, and had extra time to browse through the menu. I was supposed to take a photo of the menu, but I was stopped by the server. He explained that it wasn't allowed since it contains the ingredients. Huh? I didn't know I was holding their recipe book. Anyway, I didn't bother to protest. Here's a little secret: the same menu's can be seen in their website. ;)

While waiting for my friends to arrive, I ordered a serving of Basilico (Php 85).

Basilico

Basilico are baguette rounds topped with pesto and cheese. It was simple yet very delicious! :)

Finally, my friends arrived. So we had the following dishes:

For pasta, we ordered Hungarian Sausage and Penne (Php 210) and Beef Stroganoff (in Linguine, Php 215).

Hungarian Sausage and Penne
Beef Stroganoff

Hungarian Sausage and Penne is sauteed with fresh tomatoes, bell pepper and olive oil. Beef Stroganoff has sirloin strips and mushrooms with sour cream sauce, which can be also be served with rice. The beef was really tender and creamy. You must try both dishes! :)

We also had rice meals: Hickory Smoked Spareribs (Php 210, or with mashed potatoes for Php 235 ) and Chicken Kiev (Php 215, or with mashed potatoes for Php 240).

Hickory Smoked Spareribs
Chicken Kiev

Hickory Smoked Spareribs are grilled pork spareribs with Hickory sauce with buttered corn kernels. Chicken Kiev is a roulade of chicken breast with cream cheese, butter and herbs. I love how tender and creamy the chicken is. I almost ignored the rice, I would love it with mashed potatoes (but it wasn't available during that time).

Our dinner was also a late birthday celebration, so we decided to buy a whole cake. However, no whole cake is available. So we had an awesome idea: we combined all of the cakes on display! :)

(From top left, clockwise) Carrot Cake, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, Classic Chocolate Cake, Dayap Chiffon Cake, Devil's Food Cake

We had the bestselling cakes like Devil's Food Cake (Php 80 per slice) and Dayap Chiffon Cake (Php 85).

We also had Carrot Cake (Php 80), Classic Chocolate Cake (Php 103) and Chocolate Chip Cheesecake (Php 120).

I liked the Dayap Chiffon Cake and the Classic Chocolate Cake, but I really loved the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake. We each have our personal favorites, so I guess you should try everything to find out which one is your favorite. :)

We also had a cup of Premium Blend Coffee (Php 65) and their Bottomless Iced Tea (Php 70), which comes with a syrup to mix in with the cold tea.

For delicious comfort food in reasonable prices, The Chocolate Kiss Cafe is the place you must visit. The cakes are affordable. The ambiance is relaxing too. I'd most likely visit to try the pasta and other cakes. :)

  11. I honestly don't get restaurants that doesn't allow their customers to take pictures of their food. Don't they want free advertisement? Anyway, great idea with the cake! I never thought of that! :)

  17. If you visit Kiev in winter, cozy cafes are perfect places to save yourself from cold. There is very snowy and frosty weather. Just find a place in a directory of Kiev cafes  to have a shelter, warm atmosphere and taste Ukrainian food. But in Ukraine Travel guide you will find much more then cafes. There is everything for comfortable Ukraine tourism including hotels, apartments, bars, pubs, taxis etc.
