Shang Palace at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel

I finally met one of my cooking inspirations, Ate Kris, last July. Ate Kris is based in Germany but can cook Filipino and other dishes from scratch. She was here for a short vacation with her family, so we met up for a delicious lunch at Shang Palace, Makati Shangrila Hotel.

Shang Palace is Makati Shangrila's Chinese restaurant which offers a wide variety of Cantonese delights and delicious dimsum during lunch. They also have Dim Sum Plus or unlimited Dim Sum during weekdays.

The restaurant is very spacious and has a really elegant feel. There are different dining rooms for either large parties or intimate gatherings.

We were seated at the booth (table for 4 pax), which has a beautiful crimson background.

We were served a complimentary appetizer, Fried Tofu.

We had Sweet Corn Soup with Crab Meat & Asparagus (Php 285)

I wasn't expecting much, but this soup surprised me. It was flavorful! I could really taste real corn. A serving is good for 2 persons.

Dim Sum

As per Chinese tradition, Dim Sum is only served during lunch. We had Steamed Crystal Skin Shrimp Dumplings or Hakao (Php 210) and Steamed Fresh Scallop and Shrimp Dumplings (Php 210)

Both dumplings have huge pieces of shrimp, which I really liked.

We also had Baked Pineapple with Barbecued Pork Bun (Php 210) and Steamed Shang Palace Xiao Lung Pao (Php 210).

Baked Pineapple with Barbecued Pork Bun is similar to Pork Asado Bun. It has the right amount of sweetness and it was really filling. Shang Palace's Xiao Lung Pao was included in Spot.ph's Top Ten Xiao Long Bao in Manila. Their Xiao Lung Pao is really delicate that one has to be really careful if you're transferring it to your plate. Might as well eat it from the dimsum basket. :)

Meats

We also ordered Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin Cubes in Black Pepper (Php 890, small).

The dish was very flavorful and the meat is really tender and juicy. The bell peppers and garlic didn't overwhelm the peppery taste of the beef. This dish is good for 3-4 persons.

Desserts

For dessert, we had Chilled Mango Puree with Sago and Diced Mango (Php 150)

I don't really like sago (even in my taho), but I'd love to have this dessert again! The mango and mango puree is sweet!

Shang Place offers a variety of delectable dishes that one or two visits are not enough. I see myself visiting again, maybe to have a Dim Sum lunch or a family dinner.

I really enjoyed my lunch with Ate Kris (I'll really think about those life lessons you told me). I was really happy to finally meet you. Hope to see you again! :)
