Thaipan

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

My friend Lovelee and I met for dinner at Thaipan a few weeks ago. It's been months since I had Thai food, a cuisine I have learned to appreciate through the years. I'm not familiar with Thaipan until Zomato sent me a gift certificate as a prize for their Write For a Bite contest.

We were astounded by the gorgeous interiors this hidden Thai resto has. Any passerby would take a second look at how intricate the designs are in the walls, lighting, and furniture. Some research informed me that the part-owners are interior designers.

As we chose to sit at the alfresco area, we ordered Phad Thai (Php 310) and Cinnamon Pork Ribs (Php 289).

Cinnamon Pork Ribs (See Khrong Moo Yang)

My staple in any Thai restaurant, Thaipan's version of Phad Thai looks beautiful inside the egg net, with additional toppings on each side. The taste of the peanuts is distinct, something I look for in Phad Thai. The shrimps, tofu, and bean sprouts are generously mixed in the dish as well.

The Cinnamon Pork Ribs has a sweet hint of cinnamon and lemon, the tender meat plays quite well on the palate. We truly loved this dish. :)

We also tried their Chicken in Green Curry (Php 320), which we requested to tone down the spiciness.

This uncomplicated dish never fails to impress me. This is something I'd love to eat with lots of rice.

For dessert, we shared their bestseller, Thaipan Honey Comb's Nest (Php 180).

Thaipan Honey Comb's Nest

The Honey Comb's Nest is made of deep-fried shredded sweet potatoes, topped with coconut ice cream, with coconut caramel sauce. This dessert takes at least 15 minutes of preparation so it is wise to order this in advance.

We had a great time savoring this dessert. The crunchiness of the deep-fried sweet potatoes and creaminess of the ice cream combines well.

I didn't have expectations before I visited Thaipan, but I was impressed by how excellent their dishes are. The service is also on par with the delicious dishes. I would love to give it another visit to give other dishes a try.
