Australian Oranges - Now in Season!

I was invited to the launch of "Australian Oranges - Now in Season" hosted by the Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell, in collaboration with Citrus Australia, the National Association representing Australia's citrus industry.

Known for being the world's sweetest oranges, Ambassador Tweddell emphasized that Australian farms are known for being pollution-free with high standards for food safety, which makes Australian oranges "Sweet, Safe & Healthy".

Citrus Australia's GM of Market Development Andrew Harty explained that Australian oranges are very tasty because of the farming practices they have followed for many generations, and added that their country is blessed with climatic and soil attributes ideal for growing the world's best oranges.

Ambassador Tweddell and Mr. Harty were joined by Citrus Australia's Market Access Manager David Daniels and Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner Anthony Weymouth in the launch.

We were fortunate enough to sample the sweetness of Australian oranges as they had a station for squeezing fresh orange juice. It was indeed sweet that you wouldn't to add any sweetener on it.

A glass of fresh orange juice = 5 oranges

We were served food that used Australian oranges as key ingredient.

Australian Beef Mini-Burgers

Australian Vegetables Risotto

Strawberry Pavlova

Australian Raisin Cheesecake

We also watched a video on how every batch of oranges is tracked from the farm to the packing house, and then on the ship during its voyage to our country. This means that evey box of Australian oranges purchased can be traced back to the farm they were grown. Mr. Daniels mentioned that Australian packing houses send samples of oranges to laboratories for testing to ensure food safety.

"Australian Oranges - Now in Season" includes a month-long retail promotion by Citrus Australia and the Australian Embassy covering key groceries and supermarkets in Metro Manila, which will run from August through September. Shoppers and their families can enjoy the sweet, safe and healthy freshness of Australian oranges through sampling activities every weekend in Metro Manila branches of Robinson's Supermarket, Rustan's Fresh, Rustan's Supermarket and Shopwise.

Thanks to Tina Sendin of Austrade for having us.

  1. I love naturally sweet oranges, and it's good that they have these in Robinsons Supermarket because that's where I do my weekly grocery shopping. I'm definitely buying Australian oranges this weekend! -- Maria Teresa Figuerres
