URBN Bar & Kitchen

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

What am I doing here?!?

The first thing that came to my mind as I enter URBN Bar & Kitchen. I haven't been here before, and it wasn't my usual turf.  But I was promised good food, so I was ecstatic about what URBN has to offer.

URBN Bar & Kitchen is from the owners of Relik Tapas Bar and Shawarma Guys (which I visited weeks before, will post my review about it soon). I've been reading lots of positive feedback about Relik so I was expecting a lot from URBN. URBN just opened last December 2012 but has been creating a buzz within the party scene.

inside URBN

The place is quite spacious, with two areas: one is the party area while the other area (where we were sitting) is more of a dining area.

Starters

We begin our evening with Homemade Potato Chips (Php 250).

Homemade Potato Chips

The potato chips are served with aioli and pesto dip. It wasn't greasy, unlike the ones we do at home.

We were also served Double Baked Manchego Souffle (Php 395) and Caramelized Onions and Bacon Tartlets (Php 260).

Caramelized Onions and Bacon Tartlets

The Double Baked Manchego Souffle has Manchego Bechamel, topped with Crispy Jamon Serrano. The heavenly cheesiness of the souffle is contrasted by the saltiness of the Jamon Serrano. I loved it! For something easy to bite, the Caramelized Onions and Bacon Tartlets is just right. It was made better with some pesto cream cheese on top.

We also had some seafood starters Seared Scallops (Php 390) and Spicy Shrimp Cocktail (Php 280).

Seared Scallops
Spicy Shrimp Cocktail

The Seared Scallops was served with Jamon Serrano, on top of cauliflower puree while the Spicy Shrimp Cocktail is mixed with mangoes and served on top of sliced cucumber. I enjoyed both of these dishes, especially the cauliflower puree on Seared Scallops.

We also got to try URBN's House Salad (Php 220).

URBN's House Salad

URBN's House Salad is a combination of mixed greens, poached pears, candied walnuts, shaved parmesan, and raspberry vinaigrette. The raspberry vinaigrette gives this salad a nice kick.

Mains

For mains, we were served Mini Blackbenny Angus Burgers (Php 550 for regular) and Mini Curried Shrimp Burgers (Php 480 for regular).

Mini Blackbenny Angus Burgers & Mini Curried Shrimp Burgers

Both served on a brioche bun, the Blackbenny Angus Burgers are served with mild cheddar, bacon onion jam and aioli while the Curried Shrimp Burgers are served with Curry Mayo Coleslaw. I always love beef burgers, but the shrimp burgers came as a surprise. I would love to try the regular portions of both burgers in my next visit.

We also had Sticky BBQ Ribs (Php 550) and Chicken Fried Steak (Php 390).

Sticky BBQ Ribs

Chicken Fried Steak

The Sticky BBQ Ribs is served with Rice Pilaf and Chili Butter Sweet Corn Kernels. It was nicely cooked, tender, and really flavorful. Something simple yet really appetizing is the Chicken Fried Steak, with Mushroom Gravy poured on top and with mashed potatoes on the side. The chicken was a little salty, but the mashed potatoes balance it nicely.

We also tried Mac and Choreese (Php 290).

Mac and Choreese

The melted mozzarella cheese really got me. If I didn't have too much of what was served previously, I'd happily eat the whole thing. Yeah, I'm a cheese addict.

Then we had the hardcore dishes: Australian Rack of Lamb (Php 960) and the 24 Days Dry-Aged in House  Rib Eye Bone in (Php 2800 for 550g).

Australian Rack of Lamb

The Australian Rack of Lamb has herb and horseradish crust, served on a roasted pumpkin and garlic yogurt sauce. I had some tenderness issues with lamb before, but this dish eliminated all my doubts about having lamb again. Extremely hardcore, and really delicious.

24 Days Dry-Aged in House Rib Eye Bone in (550 g)

The In-House Dry-Aged Bone-in Ribeye got me and my fellow foodies sing a chorus. It was as if heaven came upon us and blessed us with the juiciest, most tender, flavorful steak we can ever have. Manna from the skies, indeed.

Desserts

A dinner at URBN isn't enough if we wouldn't have desserts. It's a different universe altogether.

We had Classic Souffles (Php 300) in Chocolate and Mango.

Served with vanilla and chocolate sauces, a not-too-sweet treat yet perfect after a hefty meal.

We also had Chocolate Love-ah Cake (Php 250).

Chocolate Love-ah Cake

It is served with sea salt, olive oil, and vanilla ice cream. The sea salt complements the sweetness of the hot chocolate fudge from the Love-ah Cake.

The sweet finale was the Salted Caramel Cheesecake (Php 150).

Salted Caramel Cheesecake

Beautifully drizzled with caramel sauce and sea salt, this dessert is an absolute winner. It almost melted in my mouth and left me wanting more. I'd love to try the Strawberry and Mango Cheesecakes too.

URBN Bar & Kitchen takes partying to another level with its exquisitely delicious dishes and wonderful ambiance. Chef Benjo Tuason and his partners surely know good food as well as good times.

Thanks to the owners of URBN Bar & Kitchen for having us and to Spanky Enriquez for organizing this event.

    1. Hi Cyron! Considering the location, the growing popularity of the place and the delicious food, I don't think they will get lugi. :) I think it's kinda pricey but the food's worth it. :)

  5. Enticing post and drool-worthy photos, as always Michi! The ones of caramelized onions & bacon tartlets and salted caramel cheesecake were mouth-watering. Bacon, cheesecake and caramel are words enough for me to try a place. Haha! Incidentally, I've just seen a photo of Maxene Magalona in IG saying Urbn's chili corn with honey butter is the best one she's ever had. Hmmn.

I'm getting more and more convinced to try out this place. It's also a plus that it's just in the Fort Strip, a few tumblings away from my place of work. Yay! :)
