Brasas: Latin American Street Food

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

I have been reading numerous positive reviews about Brasas that when I was invited by my fellow foodie KC to have dinner, I agreed immediately. Anyway, it was just a few blocks from where I work.

We were already starving when we arrived, so I forgot about taking photos of the place.

KC ordered Puerco Asado (Php 240) while I had a Beef Rice Platter (Php 220). Lester, who later joined us for dinner, got the Chicken Rice Platter (Php 180).

Puerco Asado

Puerco Asado is a Cuban dish with slow-roasted pork belly with crunchy skin, roasted seasonal vegetables, rice, and beans. You can just tell from the smell that it tastes really good. This dish is a little on the heavy side because of the beans and rice mixed together.

Chicken Rice Platter

Rice Platters are charcoal-grilled meat with South American Slaw, Patacones or crispy plantain chips, yellow rice served with Chimichurri sauce. I loved how tender and flavorful the beef is. I wouldn't dare estimate this platter, as I was already feeling full halfway my meal. Mind you, I have a huge appetite and was starving at that time.

We also had some Carne Asada Fries (Php 120) for sides.

Carne Asada Fries

The Carne Asada Fries are large-cut fries with chopped carne asada and grated Monterey Jack cheese on top. I love fries and could've enjoyed it more if it arrived before our rice meals.

I was supposed to try the Latin beverages, Guarapo and Brasacolda, but both were not available during our visit.

I was surprised at how affordable yet filling the dishes Brasas has to offer. The aroma from the spices will definitely awaken your senses, and the taste of the dishes was just extraordinary. I can't wait to give Brasas another visit, and I'll be sharing it again with you soon.

  12. Hmm. so the asado that we have is influenced by the latin americans? Everything looks yummy. My type of food. :) The thought of a roasted fatty pork belly with spices is just heaven. I hope they have smaller servings though. I have a pretty small stomach.
