Shitamachi Japanese Chashu House

Note: This restaurant is already closed.

My friend and I went to The Podium for lunch and looked for a new place to try, and we found Shitamachi Japanese Chashu House

Chashu is the marinated pork belly, the main ingredient in most dishes on the menu.

For the appetizer, we had the Katsu Chashu (Php 225).

I liked that it was served very crispy, but maybe I wasn't used to thin meat for katsu. I wouldn't mind eating this with rice though. :)

For main dishes, we ordered their Sizzling Ramen, the Volcano Ramen (Php 340).

Served on a stone pot, the broth is poured to the noodles as soon as it reaches the table. I like the flavor of the broth and the tenderness of the chashu, but my friend and I found the taste of the mushroom quite empowering. Still, it's unique ramen you must try.

We also had a donburi, the Wagyu Beef Pepper Rice (Php 275).

Another sizzling dish with premium wagyu beef, egg, and pepper sauce, the meat was tender and the dish is quite good for sharing. I would go back just for this. More wagyu please! :)

Shitamachi also has ramen sets and donburi sets all priced below Php 500.

I love how reasonably-priced the dishes of Shitamachi are. The dishes we had could still be improved but good enough for the prices. Still, I would see myself going back here for my sudden Japanese cravings.
