My recent trip to Chiang Mai with the boyfie brought us to one of the places I loved when I first visited Chiang Mai: the Tiger Kingdom!
Tiger Kingdom is a sanctuary where guests can touch and hug tigers. The tigers are given utmost care by the caretakers and make sure they are friendly to visitors.
The tigers are caged according to sizes: Small, Medium and Big. The ticket prices vary according to size and there are packages available as well.
Ticket Prices as of December 2015:
Small - 500 Baht
Medium - 500 Baht
Large - 600 Baht
White - 1000 Baht
Big / Medium + Small - 990 Baht
Big + Medium + Small + Smallest - 1840 Baht
I have noticed that the ticket prices have increased since my previous visit last October 2014. The boyfie and I got the Big/Medium + Small package.
Here's what you can do with the tigers (and things you need to know):
1. Hug the tigers
Before touching a tiger, we were instructed to approach a tiger from behind. By then, you can give a
tiger a hug. :)
2. Give tigers a tummy rub
The caretakers mentioned that like some pets, tigers love receiving tummy rubs.
3. Lie down with a tiger
Tigers are mostly nocturnal, so you will notice that most of them are lying down, especially during the afternoon. Like what I have mentioned above, approach it from behind and lie down with it for an awesome photo.
4. Hold a tiger's tail
Yes, you can hold their tails and they wouldn't attack you. :)
5. Don't be afraid to touch the large tigers.
Based from my experiences, the younger tigers are more playful and the older ones tend to be lazier. I myself feel more comfortable with large tigers than the smaller ones.
6. Take as much photos as you can.
Your stay inside each cage will depend on the number of visitors that time of day. It was fortunate that there weren't a lot of visitors during our visit so we were able to take our time.
The Tiger Kingdom Chiang Mai is located 20 to 30 minutes from Chiang Mai city proper. We rented a red truck or songthaew to take us to Tiger Kingdom and other places.
Tiger Kingdom recommends to visit during the morning if you want to see active tigers and the afternoon if you want to see them more relaxed.
The boyfie and I had a great time inside the Tiger Kingdom. I would love to visit the place again on our next trip to Chiang Mai.
