Osaka Ohsho's Teppanyaki Festival!

What is Teppanyaki? Teppanyaki is a style of Japanese cooking that uses an iron griddle to cook food.

Osaka Ohsho pays homage to this authentic style of cooking by introducing the All New Teppanyaki Festival with 8 All-Original Teppanyaki Dishes last March 16, 2015.

There are 5 seafood teppanyaki dishes and 3 meat teppanyaki dishes to choose from.

1. Salmon Bacon (Php 370)

Salmon Bacon Teppanyaki

Fresh Norwegian salmon wrapped in premium honey cured bacon, doused in teriyaki sauce with spring onions. The bacon and the teriyaki sauce makes this dish a bit sweet, but the freshness of the salmon balances it quite well.

2. Prawn (Php 495)

Prawn Teppanyaki

Premium seasoned Black Tiger Prawns sauteed in butter and garlic, served with wasabi mayo dip. It took a bit of effort to deshell the prawn, but the effort was worth it. Don't forget the wasabi mayo dip, as it enhances the flavor of the prawns to a different level.

3. Bacon Cut Pork Belly Asparagus (Php 250)

Bacon Cut Pork Belly Asparagus Teppanyaki

Fresh asparagus spears wrapped in sukiyaki-sliced pork belly strips, served in teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds. A play between healthy and fatty, I wouldn't mind eating this all over again.

4. Sakana Matsuri (Php 420)

Sakana Matsuri (Fish Festival) Teppanyaki

A harmony of three types of fish: Norwegian pink salmon, Pacific Blue Marlin and Yellow Fin Tuna, sauteed in butter, garlic and Japanese sake, served with asparagus spears, potatoes and carrots. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this dish, as I loved the garlic butter on the fish. The veggies were also well cooked and very delicious.

5. Mixed Mushroom and Bacon (Php 310)

 Mixed Mushroom and Bacon Teppanyaki
A combination of Shiitake, Shimeji Brown and Eringi Japanese mushrooms and asparagus spears wrapped in honeycured belly bacon strips served with their original Japanese Urinchi sauce. A favorite of mine, as I love bacon and mushrooms, the urinchi sauce makes it taste a lot better with its acidity added to the sweetness
of the dish.

6. Mixed Shellfish (Php 325)

Mixed Shellfish Teppanyaki

Fresh scallops, mussels and clams seasoned with garlic and Japanese sake, sauteed in Japanese onion sauce and served with sauteed veggies. I was impressed with the burst of flavor when I took a bite of the scallops, this teppanyaki is one must-try!

7. Ika Sugataki (Php 250)

Ika Sugataki Teppanyaki

Fresh sliced squid sauteed in a spicy Japanese sauce served with stir fried mixed veggies. The squid was incredibly chewy as it was perfectly cooked, with a hint of spiciness on it.

8. Sake Beef (Php 330)

Sake Beef

Sukiyaki sliced beef strips seasoned and sauteed in Japanese sake, garlic and butter served with Japanese coleslaw. The taste of sake was a little strong, but not empowering. I would love more butter on this though.

These delicious teppanyaki dishes are best partnered with the best-selling Fuwatoro Tenshin Han (Php 310), Original Chahan (Php 240) or Black Chahan (Php 250). A serving of gyoza is highly recommended for the ultimate dining experience.
