The Lunchbox Diet Experiment

Days of holiday binge had me gaining a few pounds, so I decided that it was the best time to try this diet delivery service, Lunchbox Diet

Lunchbox Diet is a food delivery service that prepares low-calorie healthy meals and delivers them to your doorstep for 5 days a week.

I'd be sharing my 8-day experience of Lunchbox Diet: 5 days 1200-calorie diet and 3 days 1800-calorie diet.

Ordering, Pricing, and Payment

I confirmed my orders a week prior to the delivery dates by filling out their order form. Lunchbox Diet will send you a text message to confirm your order and will provide you the payment details. You can pay via BDO or BPI (I paid via BPI), then send them via email your proof of transaction.

Prices for the 1200-calorie diet is Php 1700 and the 1800-calorie diet is Php 2300 (but I only paid Php 1380 for 3 days, because it was the week of the papal visit). Special requests are also accommodated and are subject to additional costs.

The 1200-Calorie Diet

Day 1
Breakfast: Potato & Leek Egg Scramble with Brown Sugar Apple Sauce + Pandesal
Lunch: Roasted Vindaloo Vegetables + Grilled Chicken + Red Rice
Dinner: Beef and Carrot Cottage Pie + Red Rice*
Snack: Oatmeal Cookie + Cracker

Day 2
Breakfast: Daing na Bangus + Red Rice
Lunch: Rosemary Marinated Pork Tenderloin with Charred Red Onion + Summer Vegetables
Dinner: Baked Sole Fillet with Ginger Shiitake Glaze + Red Rice*
Snack: Cracker and Jalapeno Dip + Fruit

I had my food delivered in my office in Ortigas, and I didn't have any problem with the time of the delivery.

The first 2 days were quite challenging, as my body was being introduced to small servings of food. My palate was adjusting to less flavor as well. I had to drink more water but I would still feel hungry almost the entire day.

Day 3
Breakfast: Vegetable Hash and Cheddar Cheese Egg Frittata with Cranberry Sauce + Red Rice*
Lunch: LBD's Bloody Mary Chicken Pasta Bowl
Dinner: Fish and Corn Chowder + Red Rice
Snack: Fruit + Ginger Cookie

Day 4
Breakfast: Salmon and Egg Salad with Lemon Dressing + Pandesal
Lunch: Ground Pork and Shredded Vegetables with Peanut Sauce + Red Rice
Dinner: Lemongrass Marinated Chicken Breast with Herb Crust + Red Rice
Snack: Fruit + Yogurt

Day 5
Breakfast: Classic French Toast with Banana Foster and Crunchy Corn Flake Streusel
Lunch: Chicken Pasta Carbonara Frittata + Side Salad
Dinner: Sole Fillet with Clams and Dill + Red Rice
Snack: LBD's Lite Chocolate Mousse* + Cracker

My hunger pangs improved in the next few days. Though I admit I wasn't able to strictly follow the diet for Day 4 (I had a quesadilla for a snack) and Day 5 (company party in the evening). To keep hunger at bay, I would divide a meal into half and tried to eat every 2 hours. It worked for me but I decided a 1200-calorie diet simply wasn't enough for me. So for the next week, I increased it to 1800 calories

The 1800-Calorie Diet

Day 1
Breakfast: Truffle Mushroom Congee*
Lunch: Grilled Chicken Breast with Hoisin Vinaigrette and Fresh Salad
Dinner: Shu-Mai Burgers*
Snack: Fruit + Coconut Macaroons

Day 2
Breakfast: Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Lunch: Beef Lettuce-Rice Cups*
Dinner: Chicken BBQ + Red Rice
Snack: Fruit + Cracker

Day 3
Breakfast: Onion, Anchovies, Capers and Olive Egg Fluff + Pandesal
Lunch: Jalapeno-Cheddar Cream Chicken + Red Rice*
Dinner: Classic Meatloaf + Red Rice*
Snack: Fruits

The servings were a lot better with my 1800-calorie diet. I didn't have the hunger pangs I had last week. Although my taste buds were still adjusting to the flavor (or the lack of it), I know that I'm eating the food I should be really eating.

My Conclusion

I was impressed with how convenient Lunchbox Diet is, especially to somebody like me who doesn't really have time to cook my food daily. Each meal is placed in a microwaveable container so I just popped it in the microwave oven to reheat. Utensils are provided as well. The meals were well prepared and I actually had a few favorites (*), save for some dishes that made me miss all my favorite condiments.

Will I recommend Lunchbox Diet?

I do, for people who are willing to sacrifice a few McDonald's meals and who want to eat healthier. However, I would strongly suggest knowing your daily calorie needs (as Lunchbox Diet are available in 1200, 1400, 1800, and 2000 calories) and try a low-calorie diet only if you do don't need to do something rigorous.

  5. Oooh, I've seen my friends trying this out and much like what I've seen from them---the diet looks pretty great! :D It really takes a bit of discipline and getting used to--though I hope introducing it to someone who hasn't tried such low calories won't be done in a hurry. Sana gradual yung meals na umabot to the point of its usual goal.
