Bonifacio High Street Food Crawl #BHSFoodie

More than a shopping destination, Bonifacio High Street draws in a lot of foodies due to the variety of restaurants in the area. Aside from international and local franchises, BHS is also a hub to homegrown concepts. Some of these exciting restaurants were visited by me, along with RJ Ledesma, Anton Diaz, and other fellow foodies last November 5, at the Bonifacio High Street Food Crawl.

Here are the restaurants and their bestselling dishes that we were able to try that night.

1. The Wholesome Table

The Wholesome Table, owned by Juan and Bianca Elizalde, offers healthy dishes without sacrificing the flavors. The ingredients used to all dishes are local and organic, Juan even noted that they don't have a stockroom because they strive to serve dishes using the freshest ingredients possible.

Enlightened Bowl

I tried the Enlightened Bowl (Php 320), one of their power bowls, with brown rice, nori, mixed seeds, lettuce, cucumber, pickled onion, and avocado, with ginger dressing, fried tofu, shiitake mushrooms, and pea sprouts. This bowl is quite filling but won't make me feel overstuffed.

We were also served Organic Mushroom Fritters (Php 320) and The Barcelona (Php 690).

Organic Mushroom Fritters
The Barcelona

Organic Mushrooms Fritters has mozzarella-stuffed button mushrooms wrapped in homemade Italian sausage, served with a fresh cherry tomato passato. The Barcelona is a wood-fired pizza with turkey chorizo, shiitake mushrooms, roasted garlic, mozzarella, and Grana Padano. Both dishes are as delightful as the Enlightened Bowl.

Wholesome Mojito

To wash it all off, we were served Wholesome Mojito (Php 120), a non-alcoholic drink with Spirulina, Chlorella, honey, and mint. I would love to chug this drink again on my next visit. :)

2. Village Tavern (closed)

A restaurant under The Bistro Group, this international chain is the first branch outside the US. It offers classic American food with elevated twists.

Roasted Bone Marrow

We were served their bestselling appetizer, Roasted Bone Marrow (Php 350), served with sourdough bread. A sinful treat that you can have every once in a while.

We also had the Black Pizza (Php 475), their signature squid-ink pizza with parmesan, gruyere, mozzarella, pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions.

We were also served the Spiced Rubbed US Prime Flank Steak (Php 595).

I never say no to steak, sorry. :)

3. Cue Modern Barbecue (closed)

The first venture of Moment Group, the same guys who brought us Manam (formerly Namnam), Burgerbar, and 8 Cuts Burger Blends. Their concept of barbecue is quite unique with its "long, low and slow" cooking process.

We were served Campfire-Style Skillet of Queso Fundido (Php 190) and Hot Pork Belly Tips (Php 245).

Hot Pork Belly Tips

Served with flour tortillas, the Queso Fundido is a mix of white cheddar, chorizo, cilantro, and red tomatoes, it is best eaten while hot. The legendary dish was the Hot Pork Belly Tips, served with Dijon-honey, bourbon char sit, and BBQ dips.

We got to try their awesome cocktails Bonifacio Sour (Php 225) and Sweet Soul Picnic (Php 225).

Bonifacio Sour / Sweet Soul Picnic

Bonifacio Sour is a mix of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, lemon, kalamansi, egg white, and red wine float. Sweet Soul Picnic is a mix of Sauza Tequila Gold, fresh watermelon, cardamom agave, and fernet Branca. Both drinks are too strong for me, but it's best partnered with the dishes Cue has to offer.

4. Tampopo (closed)

One of the newest additions to Bonifacio High Street is the three-month-old Tampopo, is an international brand from Singapore serving authentic Japanese katsu and ramen.

We sampled two of their bestsellers: Deluxe Tampopo Black Pig Shabu Ramen (Php 460) and Pork Loin Yanagawa (Php 570 for Black Pig, Php 370 for Premium).

Pork Loin Yanagawa

The milky broth from the ramen was not from any dairy product but from the pork bone soup, which takes a long time to be able to come up with the flavor that will go perfectly with the thin Kyushu soup.

I found the breading of the Pork Loin Yanagawa a bit sweet because of the sauce that was cooked with it.

5. Kimukatsu (closed)

The only restaurant on the list that I have visited before, Kimukatsu opened its 3rd branch at the Bonifacio High Street.

We were served the 7 flavor Kimukatsu Set (Php 2400), which includes 6 rice sets.

7 Flavor Kimukatsu Set

Flavors are Plain, Garlic, Yuzu Pepper, Cheese, Negi Shio, Ume Shiso, and Black Pepper. I really love the Black Pepper and Cheese, but I like all the flavors.

6. Wolf & Fox Gastropub (closed)

Our last stop was Wolf & Fox Gastropub, a restaurant by the SumoSam Group serving two types of dishes: Wolf dishes, the sophisticated and traditional and the Fox dishes, the quirky and creative.

We tried tasting portions of Fox dishes: Bangers and Mash (Php 348) and Fish and Chips (Php 358), along with a glass of Tequila Sunrise.

Tequila Sunrise

Bangers and Mash is homemade Cumberland sausage with skin-on mash and caramelized onion gravy, a bit tough because of the meatiness, but it goes well with the cocktail drink.

The Bonifacio High Street has indeed a lot of great things -- delicious dishes and awesome drinks included -- to offer. I could not wait to go back to these restaurants and share more of their dishes soon!

  1. Wow you've been around BGC. Now that I'm trying to live healthy, I'd love to try The Wholesome Table, but as expected it's pricey. Healthy food ain't healthy for the pocket :)) I'm curious about the non-alcoholic mojito.

I am also curious about that black pizza. Never seen anything like it.
