Dong Bei Dumplings

One of the stops during our last Binondo food trip was Dong Bei Dumplings. I have heard/read about this place from friends so I was eager to try it.

Aside from the sign outside the restaurant, nothing inside the place will give a hint that it's a restaurant. The place is quite small, with a makeshift kitchen covered by a divider and a few tables. There was no menu, just a cartolina with a handwritten menu as a guide. The best feature of this resto is the worktable where they do their dumplings.

The place was so popular that we unintentionally saw our workmates, who were also roaming Binondo that day, there.

Since we are still full from our lunch in Sincerity, we didn't order a lot.

We tried the Steamed Dumplings with Pork Stuffing (Php 100, 14 pcs), and Xiao Long Pao (Php 90, 6 pcs). I borrowed the Steamed Dumplings with Chive Stuffing (Php 100, 14 pcs) from the other table for a photo op. :p

I think the dumplings were left in the steamer too long because it was saggy when it was served to us. Also, it was bland for my taste buds. I was surprised that my companions agree with me.

Xiao Long Pao

The wrapper of the Xiao Long Pao, or soup dumplings, was of good quality. However, it doesn't have as much soup as I expected. It was adequate for the price, nevertheless.

Sodas are also available, but you can also try Wang Lo Kat Herbal Tea while eating the dumplings.

Dong Bei wasn't as fantastic as I expected, but maybe we just went on a bad day. Nevertheless, I'll consider visiting it again should I have another Binondo food trip in the future.

We spent the rest of the day walking around Binondo, appreciating the busy streets, and mending our disappointment with our Dong Bei visit. Though our tummies are near to exploding, we couldn't resist this lovely treat.

Shanghai Fried Siopao (Php 17). Eat it while hot. I swear, it's worth burning your tongue.
