Rediscovering Milkyway Cafe

It's been a long time since the PEx Gluttony Society had a meet-up, but glad we got together a few weeks ago to try Milkyway Cafe for some great Filipino food. As we are into discovering and appreciating different cuisines, we have never forgotten our very own. :)

Milkyway Cafe is located on the second floor of the building where its sister resto, Cirkulo, Tsukiji, and Azuthai are also located.

While waiting for the others to arrive, we ordered starters: Adobong Mushrooms (Php 225) and Thai Spring Rolls (Php 198).

Thai Spring Rolls

Adobong Mushrooms is a very light and healthy dish, a simple way to start a meal. The Thai Spring Rolls have 2 huge pieces of wrapped glass noodles, pork, shrimp, and mushrooms. I love spring rolls, and I swear I could finish a serving alone. :)

For mains, we began with the Laing (Php 225),

Laing

Savory and creamy with pork and shrimp, this dish wasn't that spicy as I expected. However, it didn't stop me from putting it on top of my rice. :P

We also had the Corned Beef Nilaga (Php 495) and Crispy Hito (Php 445).

Corned Beef Nilaga

Crispy Hito

Corned Beef Nilaga has homemade corned US beef, which is quite tender and wonderfully goes well as nilaga. One of the bestselling dishes is the Crispy Hito, served with tomato-cucumber salad. Our group got so excited that we were able to finish the whole fish quickly. The salad shouldn't be ignored when eating this lovely dish.

Of course, we didn't miss out on Kare-Kare (Php 495).

Kare-Kare

Milkyway's version of Kare-kare is a mix of US oxtail, pasta, and goto. The peanut sauce has the perfect thickness and the meat was quite flavorful. I fell in love with this dish hard, a definite must-try!

Milkyway Cafe is known for its halo-halo. However, our group went the other way and tried the other desserts they had to offer. I could say we didn't regret our decision.

Some of us got Milkyway Ice Cream (Php 125, 2 scoops). Milkyway creates its own ice cream, which they also use for their halo-halo. I tried two flavors: chocolate and cheese.

Milkyway Ice Cream is thicker than commercial ice cream, something I really liked that I would have loved another serving if I wasn't too full. :p

Some of our friends tried the Banana Split (Php 195) and the Milkyway Thick Milkshake (Php 165).

Like the ice cream, these desserts didn't disappoint as well. I would love to try both of these when I visit again.

Milkyway Cafe is definitely one of the best destinations for classical and modern Filipino food. I was quite impressed with how delicious the food is from appetizer to dessert. By the way, kudos to our server that night, who was the most accommodating serving staff that I have ever met. I would love to go back to try their other dishes.
