Mitsuyado Sei-Men

The House of Tsukemen has finally arrived in Manila!

The UCC group, headed by Mr. Hubert Young, opened the first branch of Mitsuyado Sei-Men here in the country last November 2012.

I was fortunate to be recently invited to try Mitsuyado tsukemen and other dishes as I was reading a lot of good reviews about this place, especially with the cheese tsukemen. Looking at the photos of cheese sauce poured on top of the noodles leaves me at a dazed and dreamy state. I loooooove cheese.

From the outside, you can see how they make noodles. Yes, they create their own noodles. Too bad they weren't making noodles by the time I arrived.

Entering Mitsuyado was like traveling to Japan sans plane ride and passport. There was even a real bicycle hanging on the wall.

it's hanged on the wall

We were sat in one of the two private function rooms. I'm not sure about the other one, but our room has its own comfort room.

Some people have already arrived and was munching on these Spicy Chicken Skin while drinking hot tea.

Spicy Chicken Skin

This dish is actually not on the menu, so you have to ask your server if this is available. The spiciness was okay for me.

To begin our dinner, we first had their side orders: Gyoza (Php 180), Chicken Karaage (Php 190), and Ebi Tempura (Php 280).

Gyoza
Chicken Karaage
Ebi Tempura

Their gyoza is the meatiest and the biggest I've ever tried. I was tempted to finish the whole dish, but I had to share it. Darn. The Chicken Karaage is just crispy, I love it! Of course, I wouldn't miss on the Ebi Tempura, which is also served with vegetable tempura.

Tsukemen

So what is Tsukemen?

Tsukemen or "dipping ramen" is a type of ramen in which the noodles and soup are served separately. You have to dip the noodles to the soup before eating. The soup for the tsukemen is thicker than the usual ramen.

We tried the Double Cheese Tsukemen (Php 340 for regular, Php 380 for large) and Marutoku Tsukemen (Php 340 for regular, Php 380 for large).

Double Cheese Tsukemen

The noodles for the Double Cheese Tsukemen is topped with parmesan cheese. It was amazing watching cheese sauce being poured on the noodles. Dipping it in the soup makes it a lot more delicious! Eating this tsukemen is beyond words. You should try this!

Marutoku Tsukemen
Aji-tama

On the other hand, Marutoku Tsukemen has Char-siu, Aji-tama or Japanese egg, nori, and vegetables. I also enjoyed this dish, especially the Char-siu and the Japanese egg. We even had to order more Aji-tama (Php 30) for this.

Ramen

We were also served ramen: Char-siu Ramen (Php 360 for regular, Php 400 for large), Spicy Miso Ramen (Php 280 for regular, Php 320 for large), and Tan Tan Ramen (Php 280 for regular, Php 320 for large).

Char-siu Ramen is my kind of comfort food. The huge pieces of Char-siu on top were just delicious! The Spicy Miso Ramen is not for the weak (like me, I know), but the butter corn was too irresistible that I just had to give it a try. It was really spicy that I needed lots of water after. I loved the Tan Tan Ramen with its nutty flavor you wouldn't want to stop sipping the ramen.

Also, Mitsuyado offers Japanese beers like Kirin (Php 140) and Hitachino Nest White Ale (Php 300).

I got to try the Hitachino Nest White Ale, which my fellow foodies suggested tastes like Hoegaarden. Aside from Japanese beers, they also have San Miguel beer.

New Dishes

We also got to try the new dishes by Mitsuyado. These dishes are not on their menu during our visit.

We tried the Seafood Ae-Soba and Ika Sumi Ae-Soba.

Seafood Ae-Soba
Ika Sumi Ae-Soba

Ae-soba is their Westernized Japanese noodles. Seafood Ae-Soba has huge pieces of prawns with fresh tomato sauce while Ika Sumi Ae-Soba has squid ink sauce topped with squid and tomatoes. Surprisingly, I liked the Ika Sumi Ae-Soba, it doesn't have this fishy taste. Both dishes are ideal for this coming Lenten Season.

We also had the Ika Sumi Ramen and Hakata Ramen.

Hakata Ramen

Ika Sumi Ramen also has squid ink, char-siu, and Aji-tama. Again, I liked this too. But what sealed the deal was the Hakata Ramen. It has the thickest soup among all the ramen dishes we tried. Mr. Young explained that Hakata Ramen takes the longest to cook hence there would only be several bowls that they'll be serving per day. That's how special it is.

Desserts

After drinking UCC House Blend Coffee (Php 69), we were served the desserts (yey!)

We were served Strawberry Kakigori (Php 90) and Hawaiian Blue Kakigori (Php 90).

Hawaiian Blue Kakigori and Strawberry Kakigori

Both Kakigori reminds me of Masatami's Hawaiian Shave Ice. I think I'll have these in summer.

We also had Sumiyaki Coffee Jelly with Ice Cream (Php 90), Cream Anmitsu (Php 150), and Mini Halo-Halo (Php 150).

I particularly liked the Cream Anmitsu, with syrup poured on top.

I really enjoyed all the dishes we had at Mitsuyado Sei-Men, but I loved the Double Cheese Tsukemen and Tan Tan Ramen a lot. I'd definitely go back for more. The place could really get crowded during dinner so it's advisable to arrive as early as possible to score a table right away.

I was also given a box of goodies from Yamato Bakery Cafe beside Mitsuyado Sei-Men, which is also owned by UCC Group. I love the Choux Cream!

Thanks to Ms. Thessa Pua, Ms. Tina Vitas, and Mr. Hubert Young for having us.

  5. Double Cheese Tsukemen looks like a real treat. I'm curious how it tastes as I can't imagine how the combination of the rich creaminess of the cheese and savory soup is like.
