Charlie's Grind and Grill

It's been a while since I visited Kapitolyo (last time was in Mad Mark's with college buddies). I was feeling my usual lousy (and lazy) self that I needed something to jumpstart my day. Gladly, my fellow foodie KC, who has gone there before, was oh-too-willing to have lunch with me at Charlie's Grind and Grill.

inside Charlie's

Charlie's is one of the most popular restos in the area. It is known for its burgers, chicken wings, milkshakes, and truffle fries. Conceptualized by Chef Rob Goco (of Cyma and Go Greek!), this simple resto beside a car wash station is just a hit for burger addicts and beer fanatics, since they also offer various craft and premium beers.

They have a pay-as-you-order system in their alfresco area, where you can also see their kitchen and catch a glimpse of what they do in the kitchen.

For starters, we had Half Dozen Buffalo Wings (Sweet, Php 265). It comes with veggie sticks and bleu cheese dip. We also had Black Truffle Fries (Php 185).

Black Truffle Fries

Since both of us can't tolerate spicy food, we played it safe and ordered the "sweet" version. It was flooded with sauce so prepare to get messy when you order it. You can have the hot or nuclear for the same price, or if you're into really, really spicy food, get the one in punyeta sauce for Php 320 for half dozen. (Sorry guys, that's really their term for the sauce).

One of their bestsellers, the Black Truffle Fries are fresh Igorota Idaho potatoes tossed in truffle oil and truffle salt and topped with grilled chicken liver. The strong aroma from the truffle is just irresistible. Though I'm not into the chicken liver, I wasn't too bothered. Maybe I'm just really a fries addict.

Of course, who wouldn't miss the burger? And so we got a Black Angus Burger (Php 200).

Black Angus Burger

The burger has Black Angus patty from USDA Black Angus Beef, cooked medium-well, with cheddar cheese, butter leaf lettuce, onions, pickles, mustard, and mayo on a butter bun. I find it really juicy and meaty. I'd love to have this burger again.

The prices are quite reasonable and the dishes are really impressive. I liked their chicken wings a lot! I'd definitely visit again soon to try the other burgers and their milkshake. :)

  13. I got negative feedback about Charlie's from a friend. I don't know, I'll have to check with her :). Maybe I'll just grab a burger from Charlie's to go, and not dine there.
