The Mistress

I went to see "The Mistress" last night with my friends Kenny and Steph. We haven't seen each other for a while so this movie was just perfect timing. :)

I love John Lloyd. I try to watch all of his movies. He has chemistry with whoever his screen partner is, may it be Sarah, Toni or Angel but I really love watching him with Bea Alonzo. (Sorry for the showbiz intro :P)

"The Mistress" is the story of Sari (Bea Alonzo), a hardworking suitmaker who supports her family, especially her ailing grandmother who took care of her when her father died and her mother had gone with another man. Despite her good girl image, she's hiding a secret: she is a mistress of a wealthy old man (Ronaldo Valdez) for years. She meets JD (John Lloyd Cruz), an architect, who pursues her despite knowing that she is already committed to a married man.

Though Sari begins to fall for JD, a confrontation will reveal another complication, that even if JD is the better option for Sari, she just can't leave her lover.

More than just a love story, this movie tackles a very serious issue, which made me think about some things. Sometimes, there are just things that you can't get, as much as you want to (this is a line from the movie). It also has its fun moments with the grandmother, the kid who likes Sari and the shop customer (Gabe Mercado, you rock!).

"The Mistress" is a must-watch, especially if you're looking for something heavy.

And I do love the soundtrack: Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars, which says a lot about the film. :)

  2. Wow, John Lloyd-Bea movie. Which is just right. :)

  6. I'm interested but I don't like going to movie theaters in general so I think I will either wait for the video, wait for it to show on TV, or ask someone for spoilers. XD

  9. I'm guilty of not patronizing our local movies. XD Kasi parang ang cheesy ^^; The last movie I saw na Pinoy was of Bea & John Lloyd din (the one shot in UST). Kasi despite the seriousness of their films, comedic effect din yung dalawang yun. I really love their tandem. They were never involved together but they work so well as lovers on-screen.

    1. One More Chance. :) Yeah, they have a very strong on-screen chemistry. I try to watch more Pinoy movies as I can, as long as it's entertaining or sensible or both.:)

  10. I actually liked the Mistress because of the one liners.."Tagalog yan para maintindihan mo!" saka "Hindi lahat ng gusto mo makukuha mo" are good ones
