How Do I Love Thee?

I'm not a crybaby, but this poem always makes me cry. I love this poem so much that I have written it on my daily planner.

Most of you are familiar with this poem, but actually this poem is one of the forty-four love sonnets written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning called "Sonnets from the Portuguese", which tells us the love she felt for Robert. (Robert Browning is also a poet).

I wish to recite this poem someday without having to break down. It feels kinda weird for me to cry but I guess I'm just too emotionally attached to this poem.

Sonnet XLIII
How Do I Love Thee?

--Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, - I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

  3. Dati wala, ngayon meron.hahaha! Pero kung iisipin mo yung intensity ng feeling ng author para dun sa asawa niya, nakakaiyak talaga. :) at isa lang ito dun sa 44 na sonnets na sinulat niya para sa asawa niya.
